The role:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides both operational and programmatic support to the organization. The CFO supervises the finance unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organization. The CFO reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and directly assists the Chief Operating Officer (COO) on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and the securing of new funding.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans
  • Establishes finance operational strategies by evaluating trends; establishing critical measurements; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change
  • Develops organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; projecting acquisition and expansion prospects; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; accumulating capital to fund expansion
  • Develops financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; developing action plans
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances
  • Maximizes return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities; maintaining relationships with the investment community
  • Reports financial status by developing forecasts; reporting results; analyzing variances; developing improvements
  • Directs detailed reporting of all relevant data to parties as needed along with a detailed analysis demonstrating results and recommending corrective action steps
  • Projects the effect of all agreed upon programmatic or operational changes on the financial performance of all impacted contracts
  • Directs the preparation of all necessary financial analyses to project financial impact of payer/employer contract negotiations/modifications
  • Participates in the financial negotiations of payer/employer contracts
  • Oversees Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place
  • Oversees Revenue Cycle Management for the systems and facilities
  • Oversees business insurance plans and healthcare coverage analysis
  • Oversees the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds (computers, etc.), ensuring all are in accordance with federal regulations
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Develops and maintains effective internal controls in order to monitor and report any activity that could jeopardize the financial viability or public perception of the organization
  • Accomplishes finance and organization mission by completing related results as needed

Qualifications and experience:

  • Hands-on approach and detail-oriented quality is a must
  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Actuarial Sciences required.  MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • Possesses solid communication, technology, analytical, management, and teamwork skills
  • Previous experience as Controller or Chief Financial Officer
  • 10+ years of financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization
  • Healthcare Revenue Cycle management
  • Experience in Strategic and Operational planning
